Residential Support Staff

This position provides care, support and supervision to Program Participants residing in Community Living Arrangement (CLA) homes or in private homes as needed.  Responsible for the safety and well-being of Program Participants at all times.  Ensures that the physical site is maintained for safe working conditions. 

Rate: $17.50/hr for daytime hrs and $16.50/hr for any "sleep" hours. Yes, staff are paid even during hours when they are permitted to sleep on overnights. 

Schedule: Varies. There are no strictly day shifts available. Schedule will include a combination of afternoon and overnight hours and some weekends. Availability and current scheduling needs to be discussed at time of interview.

Job Responsibilities

1.  Assists Program Participants to attain daily living skills that allow them to become more independent and self-sufficient. 

2.  Maintains the physical site in a safe, secure and clean condition.

3.  Completes all shift requirements prior to leaving duty.

4.  Establishes and maintains strong and positive community contacts that are in the best interest of both the program individuals and the agency.

5.  Employs effective work practices, utilizing time allocated to the program in the most judicious manner.

6.  Submits all written documentation required for the program on or before the due date and without prompting.

7.  Maintains accurate records, goals, documentation, ledgers, receipts and other materials relevant to Program Participants' progress, health, activities and financial records.

8.  Acts as an advocate for Program Participants; promotes and provides community involvement opportunities for Program Participants when they express interest as identified and authorized in the Program Participants' ISPs.

9.  Assists in the development of Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Assessments and Quarterly Reviews in cooperation with the Program Participant being served, Lead Staff, Supports Coordinators and Residential Program Specialists. 

10.  Reports medical issues immediately.  After proper training, administers first aid as necessary.  After proper training, administers medications in accordance with Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations for medication administration.

11.  If eligible (must have High School Diploma or GED), performs as Supported Living Specialist, when assigned, in order to meet program needs.  When performing in this capacity, attempts to educate Program Participants on the need to maintain their living space in a safe, secure and clean condition.  Assists in the care and upkeep of Program Participants' living spaces, as needed.

12.  Safely transports Program Participants or supervises Program Participants during daily transportation when directed to meet program needs. 

13.  Completes additional duties when requested.

Job Relationships

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Lead Staff.  If eligible to perform Supported Living duties (must have High School Diploma or GED), will report to the Residential Program Specialist.

WORKERS SUPERVISED:  None.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS:  Works closely with other CLA Residential Support Staff, Residential Program Specialist, Supported Living Specialists, Supports Coordinators, healthcare personnel, family and friends of Program Participants. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:  No educational requirements.  If provided option to perform additional Supported Living duties, must have High School Diploma or GED.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  Must be willing to obtain/maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid; experience working in direct care with MH/ID population preferred; experience in Human Services preferred.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:  Must demonstrate well-organized oral and written communication skills.  Appreciation and acceptance of diverse abilities amongst Program Participants.  Ability to exercise creativity and flexibility.  Will maintain a customer service level commensurate with the expectations of the Partners In Progress, Inc. Mission Statement. Strong background desired with adherence to PA Code 55, Chapter 6400 Regulations.

DRIVER'S LICENSE:  Must possess a valid driver's license with a satisfactory three (3) year driving history in order to be considered an agency approved driver by the agency's vehicle insurance carrier.
